Friday, Sept 28th, 2007 I’m sure many of you have had a chance to check out the zany demolition derby powered reality show “Crash Addicts” currently aired nationally Fridays at 8:00pm on the Outdoor Life Network. What you may not know is that the shows cast members hail from a little town about a half an hour east known as Lansdowne, Ontario. In fact, Kingston hard rockers Sum Thin Ugly have been called upon to provide the soundtrack for much of the 2007 season and in true derby spirit, have thrown their mechanical skills into the ring. The band, including locals Dean Neron, Ed Keaney, Randy Cooke, and Steve Ubdegrove have had a busy summer biding time between playing live shows and building derby cars as pit crew for driver Richard Leighton’s “Team White Hot”. It all began as a full length feature film, “Hot Rod” in 2005 which chronicled Joey “Hot Rod” Kemp’s come back after winning the 1998 Lansdowne event in which he suffered a serious injury and was told by doctors that he should never compete again. Since then it has grown into a full season on OLN with 13 nationally aired episodes featuring not only Joeys over the top antics, but also follows local drivers Richard “White Hot” Leighton, Jamie “Birminator” Birmingham, Gary “Sweetleaf” Miller and the very lovely Tammy “Bubbles” Bruce in their quest for derby glory and a shot at a National Title. With a little luck, allot of hard work and Leighton’s outlandish driving abilities, team White Hot / STU has done just that. After qualifying in Barrie, ON with a second place finish, the team has been busy preparing a fresh car to compete in the Pro Mod V8 class of the Williams Cup Championships that will take place in Simcoe Ontario over the Thanksgiving weekend. To help promote the event Kingston’s K Rock 105.7, Lawless Promotions, OLN, Summerhill Television and Stages Night Club will host a free, all ages send off party from 7pm to 10pm to celebrate Team White Hot / STU’s qualification in the William’s Cup Championship Demolition Derby Event to be held in Simcoe, ON over the Thanksgiving weekend. All your favorite Crash Addict drivers will be in attendance to meet their fans and take in Sum Thin Ugly’s killer live show (complete with the same dazzling light system used for the 2007 Juno Awards), and a live video shoot for broadcast in one of the 2007 Crash Addicts episodes. So gather up a few friends, maybe corral the neighborhood kids and come on down and check out the fun and excitement. This will be one show you won’t want to miss and who knows………you may just get your mug on national TV.
